Audio Technica ATH M40x Vs M50x

Audio Technica a Japanese sound equipment manufacturing company has launched two high quality studio monitor headphones known as the M40x and the M50x. For those of you who aren’t aware of Audio Technica, it is a well-established sound equipment manufacturer based in Japan that has been in business since 1962. Its products are known for their quality and amazing sound.

The drivers of both the headphones have been forged from rare earth magnets and the voice coils from copper clad aluminum. The difference between the two units lies in the aperture size wherein the M40x comes with 40mm drivers and the M50x with 45mm. Read also : Audio-Technica ATH-M50 Vs M50S.

Both the headphones have circumaural design that enables sound isolation even in loud and noisy environments. The earcups of both the units are of the 90 degree swiveling type that enables easy one ear monitoring. But the M50x has the feature that its earcups can be swiveled up to 90 degrees in both directions while the M40x supports 15 degrees swiveling in the Inwards direction.

Both the units have been made of professional grade earpad and headband material that offers both durability and comfort. Both the units come with a detachable cable. Going by the frequency response supported the M50x takes a lead as it supports frequency in the range of 15-28000 Hz while the M40x supports only 15-24000Hz.

Based on the price M40x priced at $99 is relatively cheaper than its counterpart M50x which costs around $169.

Going By the specifications and the customer reviews M50x offers you a more detailed and high definition sound experience but the M40x has proven itself as a worthy competitor by offering a very good sound quality at a relatively cheaper price. The winner of this comparison is based on the customer needs and its up to them to decide which one suits them better.
