Etymotic HF5 Vs MC5

As one of the leading earphone manufacturer, especially the in-ear model ones, Etymotic can offer the high-class performance at an affordable price through their products. Now, many people often question which one is the best between these two: Etymotic HF5, or Etymotic MC5. Apparently, Etymotic MC5 is nearly as good as Etymotic HF5, but its price is significantly lower. Did we miss something here? Have a look : Etymotic MC5 Vs MK5.

Etymotic HF5 Vs MC5

Etymotic HF5’s frequency response range span from 20 Hz to 15 kHz. It claims to have one of the highest output sensitivity in its class with 105 dB SPL. Armed with the exclusive Accu Driver, Etymotic HF5 promises high performance as well as remarkably precise, detailed and balanced audio output. Its noise isolation feature is certainly amongst the best as it is able to provide up to 42 dB attenuation.

Then, how could the much cheaper Etymotic MC5 stand on par with Etymotic HF5? This is all thanks to the featured neodymium magnets. Most products from the higher class are using neodymium magnets to breathe more power for their audio output. Instead of using the standard ferrite magnets, Etymotic MC5 uses neodymium magnets, delivering tight and accurate bass together with crystal clear high-frequency sounds. Its frequency response range, impedance, even noise isolation level are all identical with Etymotic HF5’s. However, its sensitivity is inferior, with only 100 dB SPL. You may notice that the HF5 is louder and stronger than the MC5 at the same volume level.
