Sennheiser HD 380 Pro Vs Beyerdynamic DT 770

Sennheiser HD 380 Pro and Beyerdynamic DT 770 are two pairs of headphones standing in the same price range. Each is available under two hundred bucks. They are both popular among professionals looking for reliable headphones for studio purposes, as well as casual users who seek the ultimate comfort and sonic experience. Well, you must be wondering whether you should get Sennheiser HD 380 Pro or Beyerdynamic DT 770 right now, so continue reading below to determine which one is best for you! (see also: Sennheiser HD 380 Pro Vs Audio Technica ATH-M50X)

Sennheiser HD 380 Pro Vs Beyerdynamic DT 770

Both models are basically very comfortable to wear, even for long sessions. They are both over-the-ear circumaural headphones. Their ear cups are soft and comfy, and their headbands are also padded. However, Beyerdynamic DT 770 is slightly heavier, as it features a metal frame. It is built like a tank, able to endure the abuse from daily usage, and will certainly last for some time. On the other hand, Sennheiser HD 380 Pro’s frame is made of plastic, which may not be as sturdy.

Sennheiser HD 380 Pro has a single-sided 3.5mm jack connector, but it comes with a screw-on 6.3mm adapter as well for compatibility with different cables. It has a replaceable coiled cable included, which is 1m in length and extendable up to 3m. There is a carrying case in the bundle, too. On the other hand, Beyerdynamic DT 770 also has a single-sided 3.5mm mini-jack plug with a 6.3mm adapter, but comes with a 5.2ft (1.58m) straight cable. There is an option to buy Beyerdynamic DT 770 along with a protective case.

The output qualities of the two products are quite different. Sennheiser HD 380 Pro, with a 54-ohm impedance and a frequency response range that spans from 8 Hz to 27 kHz, is often praised for producing high-quality, well-defined sounds. Overall, Sennheiser HD 380 Pro sounds decent, with solid bass, articulate midrange, and good treble. The model doesn’t need an amp to sound well.

However, Beyerdynamic DT 770 comes with a frequency response range of 5 Hz – 35 kHz. Not only it can reach higher and lower frequencies, but it also comes in three variants with different impedance: 32-ohm, 80-ohm, and 250-ohm. Having a higher impedance means that the headphones require more power to work, but the reproduced sounds will be much more accurate. The 32-ohm is good for virtually anything, including simple MP3 players, while the 80-ohm adds some improvement in accuracy and clarity but may require an amp to work with low-powered MP3 players. The 250-ohm enhances the quality even more significantly but absolutely demands an amp to work with.

Conclusion
All in all, both products are great, but Beyerdynamic DT 770 comes out as the winner here, as it is more rugged and durable. It also sounds better than Sennheiser HD 380 Pro. Choose the 32-ohm variant if you want it compatible with any device, yet you should consider either the 80-ohm or the 250-ohm if you plan to use it with an amp regularly.
