A lot of people seem to get confused again and over again in choosing between these two pairs of headphones. Of course, both Superlux HD668B and Superlux HD681 are high-quality products. They deliver very astonishing audio performance that their extremely affordable prices almost seem to be a benefaction. They share quite some similarities, indeed, but they each has unique distinctions that set them apart from each other. So, what are the differences between Superlux HD668B and Superlux HD681? Which is the model that will suit you the best? Find out below!
Even from the design, Superlux HD668B and Superlux HD681 are already quite contrasting from each other. Superlux HD681 almost seems like a typical pair of headphones, with a long, flat surface of the leatherette piece of the headband. However, the headband is adjustable, allowing the model to fit you properly. On the other hand, Superlux HD668B comes with a unique headband design which features two small foamy pads which function as contact points to the top of your head. Such design is ultimately comfortable, even for long wearing sessions.
Both models have over-the-ear cups that properly envelope the user’s ears for some degree of noise isolation. Both models are also semi-open, which means that they have openings on the back of the earcups to allow some air to pass through the back of the diaphragms to create a truly accurate and immersive audio reproduction. Superlux HD668B comes with a 3.5mm detachable cable, whereas Superlux HD681 features 3.5mm and 6.35mm inputs but its cable is not detachable.
Both models have excellent output quality. They just have different characteristics. They have similar frequency response range of 10 Hz – 30 kHz, which is cool. They reach lower and higher frequencies that aren’t reachable by other more expensive models on the market. The lows, mids, and highs are pronounced accurately, solid, clean and crisp.
However, Superlux HD668B is armed with a bigger impedance than Superlux HD681. Superlux HD668B has 56-Ohm impedance whereas Superlux HD681 has 32-Ohm impedance. With a bigger impedance, the headphone will reproduce sounds more accurately, but also require more power. This explains why Superlux HD668B is preferred more for the musicality – the sounds are very well-defined – while Superlux HD681 is preferred for the liveliness; the sounds are louder and immersive.
