About UE Boom 2
UE Boom 2 is Bluetooth speaker. The design is standing up and has an amazing sound. Moreover it can go out until 15 hours if charged full. If you look at its bottom of the Boom 2, they have touched up the port flaps, this changes makes them able to sit flush with the base. Similar to the previous model the flap door can be removed if you think it gets in the way when you charge them. The size of UE Boom also very compact, the size is no bigger than a can of beer.
Let’s move to the performance side, taken from techradar, UE Boom 2 is built with a strong foundation and has been moved forward from its previous model, what you will notice first must be the 360 degree sound delivery. You will be impressed by this speaker ability to fill a room with sound. Similar to its predecessor UE Boom 2 has the impressive set of features inside the speaker. Using the UE Boom app, you will be able to adjust the equalizer effect and Double Up. Double Up is linking two UE speakers via Bluetooth to produce double sound. The app also can be used to set alarms to wake you up in the morning, this feature also available in the older version of Boom. The app as mentioned above also can be used to pair UE Boom with another so they will play the same music via Bluetooth.
Next is the tap control, using the app, you can activate them. This feature will allow you to change your song only by simply picking the speaker and tapping it. It is the same familiar feature you can get in many high-end headphones cable these days, this feature is also used by UE Boom 2. Aside from tapping to change the song, you can also skip the song by double tapping it and three tapping to make the song go backwards. The last amazing feature is that this speaker is waterproof. The IPX7 UE Boom can be submerged until 1 meter underwater for 30 minutes. Also read our article on JBL Charge 3 Vs UE Boom 2 here.
About UE Megaboom
UE Megaboom is to put simply is the bigger version of Boom 2. Only with this explanation the Megaboom is already very promising. However their difference in fact is not only the size, when you try to hear them, this bigger size definitely produce louder sound than Boom 2. Megaboom battery allow this speaker to be played in a long 20 hours. This amount of time is at least 20% longer than Boom 2.
Like what you have expect Megaboom size is double from Boom 2. This make the Megaboom falls into the category for large portable speakers in general. It comes in 9 inches tall and and inch thicker than Boom 2. But we think you can still call it a compact, cylindrical charm. Aside from the size the design and color also hasn’t changed. You will still find the volume button “+,-“ placed at the front of this speaker, while the power button also stay in the same place at the top of the speaker.
In the performance side the Megaboom is able to produce a powerful sound, which is crispy with heady bass. This speaker can give you a room filling experience that has been the characteristic of UE’s cylindrical Bluetooth speakers. The improved 360 degree audio effect we can found in Boom 2, also can be found in Megaboom.
Megaboom also has the app we mentioned before in Boom 2, with this app you can tweaked the built-in equalizer and you can pair two UE speakers together. The same as you can find in the Boom 2, you can use this app to set an alarm, so this speaker can wake you up in the morning with your favorite music. Also just as what you expect, Megaboom is also waterproof, this IPX7 device claims they will be just fine even when submerged 1 meter underwater for 30 minutes, before it will be leaking.

As it have been said above, there is not many difference you can find on Megaboom that you can’t find on Boom 2. The clearest difference is the size and power. The size of Megaboom is clearly twice the Boom 2 and of course also able to produce louder sound than Boom 2. But unfortunately other than that, there is no new feature introduced in Megaboom. Because there is no new feature, we think the $84 gap is too much. If you want to choose between both of them, we will recommend you to pick the UE Boom 2.
