Music is not everything but everything looks dull without music, starting from those restaurants or bars near your workplace to video games you play on console or computer, music is everywhere. They improve your experience in almost everything and for many of us, there is no day goes by without listening to any type of music we like. Different people however, may want to choose a different listening tool depending on where they use it or just the characteristic of the gear itself.
Some may want to have a huge soundstage or some may prefer detailed sound that isolated their ears better; it all a matter of taste and application. For the majority of people, having a small speaker near their computer or laptop will be enough and this simple set can already serve a good quality of sound for casual use. In production however, the gear needs to be more reliable because we are doing critical listening here so everything has to be balanced.
One type of speaker we love to use from time to time or as an everyday companion if you love carrying your music and enjoying it together with more people is compact speaker or wireless speaker or Bluetooth speaker. Bluetooth speakers were invented as the wireless technology was invented as well and those who bring us the convenience are Tord Wingren, Jaap Haartsen, and Sven Mattison as they were developing wireless headsets.
The first patent of Bluetooth speaker however is by Larry Schotz back then in 1994 but today, you can find tons of them in the market, ranging from cheap to super expensive and from well-known names such as Harman Kardon to unfamiliar manufacturers whose names we never heard of. What matters the most in a Bluetooth speaker and all types of speaker must be the sound but this can be very subjective as not all of us have the same preference in sound and even in the music genre itself.
Compact speakers are amazing but due to the limitation of size, they are not going to be as loud as your bookshelf speakers such as the Edifier R1280T Vs R1280DB. Their low end will also not be as punchy while the highs may not be as detailed or airy. However, the reason why we love compact Bluetooth speakers is for the fun itself, as you can bring them anywhere without having to worry about the power source.
They are clutter free and straight forward with enough sound to fill a small room and few people to enjoy depending on the power and size. Being transported a lot makes them have a robust build or body and in most cases, they will have certain IPX ratings to protect the internal components from water and dust.
About Beats Pill+ and Bose SoundLink Revolve
If you are also looking for compact or Bluetooth speakers for these benefits, there are tons of options out there and for those who have been monitoring this specific market, we are sure you recognize the brands or manufacturers leading the game. We personally prefer well-known manufacturers not because they are famous but for the product quality as they also tend to be more reliable both when offering reliable products and the amount of variants available thus, there is always the choice for every customer.
Among those many companies, Beats and Bose are two great brands to choose from because they seem to always upgrade their products and continue to answer the customer’s demand of better speakers based on issues of the former. While this type of speakers are not new anymore and probably not as hyped as a decade ago, knowing that there is still much to improve is great for we can always have better models especially from these two who are very active in releasing new models.
One issue we often meet when using a compact speaker is their directionality which makes them not as convenient and won’t let us put the unit just anywhere. If this is what your old Bluetooth speakers are experiencing, Beats Pill+ and Bose SoundLink Revolve will be two of the most ideal options to consider. These models are designed to fix the issue and let you enjoy the music from any position without suffering from the difference in quality.
These models are not new anymore and have been around for a few years already but even in present days, they are still among the best options for sound quality which is our primary goal when checking Beats Pill+ and Bose SoundLink Revolve. Another reason why we like these speakers is for their overall quality and this is prominent as many users have been enjoying the same experiences with either of them even for years after first using the speakers.
Beats Pill+ and Bose SoundLink Revolve Design
As you can see from the sample picture above, these speakers are quite different to each other when it comes to the design portion and what makes Revolve so much authentic in terms of shape and form factor is how they are offering the 360 degree sound itself in the build of standing cylindrical speakers. From a distance it almost looks like a milk jug but it doesn’t have a handlebar like the big brother yet, weighing around one and half lbs. with a diameter of 3.24-inch makes it still fairly portable.
On the other hand, the Pill+ is quite similar to other earlier Bluetooth speakers with the cylinder form but has a flat surface on its length, making it have to be placed laying down. It is not the most compact speaker in Beast catalog by being measured at 2.72-inch deep, 8.27-inch wide, 2.5-inch tall and weighing at one point seven lbs. These speakers however, still provide physical control on the unit for convenient operation.
Beats Pill+ and Bose SoundLink Revolve Sound Quality
The most important point of the speaker is their sound quality and in this part both Beats Pill+ and Bose SoundLink Revolve are amazing even compared to many other similar speakers out there. Despite being small Bluetooth speakers they are surprisingly able to deliver crisp and balanced sound with immersive nuance which are not common characteristics of small units. The bass is also very good with enough definition and never sounds muddy including when playing baritone sound. However, side by side Revolve is actually slightly better than Pill+.
What’s a bit different and we do think is better in Revolve is its depth and the richness of sound which makes this speaker an overall well-rounded unit for any type of music from the deepest bass to the highest notes and Pill+ does loses some of the details or clarity on both extremes. However, the midranges are equally great despite some sounds a bit muddled especially in Pill+.
The difference is extended into the volume level and even here Revolve still sounds great when you push the volume till its highest level without really affecting the quality while Pill+ did lose some of the details and makes your music sound a bit thin and shrill at the higher settings.
Beats Pill+ and Bose SoundLink Revolve Battery Life
Moving further, the next thing we want to pay attention to is their battery life because wireless speakers are often suffering from the lack of juice to run longer and this is very true about Pill+. This speaker is working well in the lower range of playtime and usually can last up to 13 hours for day by day music listening while the Revolve can last for about 5 hours longer. While these amount of times are pretty decent among many similar speakers, we do hope to see performance like JBL Flip 5 or Charge 4.
Beats Pill+ and Bose SoundLink Revolve Features
For the additional features, Beats Pill+ and Bose SoundLink Revolve are pretty much what you can expect from speakers at this price point and you can dive in deeper through their mobile app with features including unit pairing for more than one speaker to play the same song together. Pill+ is probably slightly more convenient because you can charge your phone with this speaker and for iPhone users, it also charges using lightning cable in case you don’t have the USB cable laying around.
Beats Pill+ vs Bose Soundlink Revolve
These speakers are an amazing option for the budget because they sound very well defined unlike many other compact speakers. However, when compared to each other, Revolve indeed sounds better and more detailed with depth while also retaining the quality even in higher volume settings. It is compact enough but not pocket-able and played together, your Pill+ will run out of juice faster than Revolve yet, Beats let you use the speaker battery as a power bank for convenience.
