FiiO X1 is a simple lossless music player. It can play the music stored on its memory card as well as from a Bluetooth source. There are some features and playing modes available, including Shuffle, Loop Single, and Loop All. It is equipped with a 2.0-inch color display that looks nice and easy to read. On the other hand, the latest generation of FiiO X5 comes with a wide touchscreen which measures 3.97” with a resolution of 480 x 800. The touchscreen looks cool indeed. However, FiiO X5 has dual operating modes, which are Pure Music mode and Android mode. In the Pure Music mode, it operates as a full-featured lossless music player. All of the system resources are allocated for playing music for the best performance. However, this device is much more versatile because, in the Android mode, you can install various third-party apps, either to suit specific listening needs or to add some utility features.
The next difference between FiiO X1 vs X5 is about the connectivity. FiiO X1 only has a single 3.5 mm headphone/line output port. You can switch between the headphone and line levels in the system settings. This model supports Bluetooth 4.0, but it does not support Wi-Fi.

FiiO X1 is armed with the high-performance TI CM5242 DAC to deliver superior sound quality. It supports all major lossless music formats up to 32-bit/192kHz. The output is crisp, clear, and detailed. It is definitely better than most smartphones in terms of music quality. However, it does not support some more advanced formats, such as DXD, DSD, and PCM.
Nevertheless, FiiO X5’s output quality is even better. It is equipped with two AKM AK4490EN DACs to deliver its output. It supports various music formats up to 32-bit/384kHz. You can notice the enhanced detail and clarity. In addition, it supports more file formats including DXD, PCM, DSD64, and DSD128.

If you don’t mind spending some extra bucks, FiiO X5 is definitely worth the money. It delivers even better sound quality, and it has more features. The Android mode is especially handy. However, if you prefer a simple and affordable music player, FiiO X1 is the way to go. This model doesn’t have many fancy features, but the sound quality is decent.
