JBL and UE are two fierce competitors in the lifestyle speaker market. They both have produced various speaker models that are aimed to active and mobile modern people. JBL has updated its line-up with JBL Flip 4, which is even more compact and lightweight than the predecessor. On the other hand, UE features UE Wonderboom, a small portable speaker with true 360-degree sound. Which one is better? See the comparisons between JBL Flip 4 vs UE Wonderboom below to find out the answer!
Size and Design
JBL Flip 4 is even more compact and lightweight than its predecessor, JBL Flip 3. However, it does look more modern and sporty. It still features a bar-like design with on-board volume buttons that are easily seen and accessed. It is available in several color choices, such as black, camouflage, gray, white, trio, blue, teal, and red.
Well, compared to UE Wonderboom, JBL Flip 4 is indeed relatively bigger. However, this wireless speaker is already small enough to pocket comfortably. You can also easily slip it into any spare space in your backpack. See also: JBL Flip 4 vs Charge 3.
UE Wonderboom comes in such a small and portable design. It is so small and lightweight in a short tubular shape. It also has several color choices, such as phantom black, stone gray, subzero blue, lilac, cashmere pink, and fireball red. It has large volume buttons on the front. There is a small loop hole on the top, but this loop hole is a little bit too small to be versatile. There is one trick, though; you can attach the loop hole to a larger keychain ring to make them more useful.
Both of these two speakers are IPX7 waterproof. They can withstand temporary exposure to rain or splashes as well as submersion in water for up to 30 minutes. Hence, they are great for traveling and outdoor uses.
JBL Flip 4 may lack 360-degree sound, but the sound quality is quite impressive. It is loud and powerful, despite the size, and the bass is solid, thanks to the dual passive radiators. It produces stereo sound that has good imaging.
On the other hand, UE Wonderboom makes a great choice for a party speaker due to the 360-degree sound. It is surprisingly loud, although not as powerful as JBL Flip 4. The bass is pretty good, but the overall sound is somehow a little too confined. Well, it is still enjoyable, but particular audiophiles may notice the slightly confined sound.
JBL Flip 4 has a longer battery life than UE Wonderboom. JBL Flip 4 can last for about 12 hours per charge, whereas UE Wonderboom can only last for about 10 hours per charge.
