Bluetooth Speakers

We love music but to listen to them, you will need a type of speaker. The size can vary based on how loud you want it to be but usually we are going for the modest size for home use and a far smaller one such as in the earphone or headphone when they are meant to be used privately. The choice is all yours since not everyone has the same preference but most speakers are versatile, especially Bluetooth speakers that can be connected with smart devices or portable media players.

When it comes to Bluetooth speakers, there are many you may want to consider before buying one and we do think the first concern is the size. In the past these types of speakers were very compact or about the size of a soda bottle but as the demand and also variety of users emerged, their size also became more diverse from as small as your hand sanitizer to those about the same size as a printer. All connected to your smartphone or computer through Bluetooth.

Next is the sound so if you can, try to listen to the sound first to check whether they are up to your standard or not. Usually the bigger speakers tend to sound more natural, open and impactful but not everyone wants to carry the size or spend the amount. In general Bluetooth speakers and many speakers tend to be more pronounced or boosted on the bass range but models with tweeters built-in may also improve the high frequency response.

Since Bluetooth speakers are meant to be used wirelessly, it is wise to consider the connectivity too. Some of them are already using the Bluetooth 5.0 to improve the connectivity, especially distance and the quality maintained at a longer distance. If you often place the speakers far from the main device, it is wise to get the one with a more reliable connectivity or if you want to connect it with a device without wireless ability, we can look for the models that carry physical input too.

In addition, there are some features on the Bluetooth speakers and these features can improve the value of your device too. The typical features such as an ability to pair other similar speakers to play the same song is great to improve the experience. There are also speakers with charging ability which means the battery can be used to charge your other devices and this is convenient for small to medium speakers that you often bring for outdoor activities.

About JBL Xtreme 3 and Charge 5

There are more than plenty of speakers to consider based on which seems to fit in your application or personal preference. We do recommend getting the one that you can use with ease, based on the size and also sound profile if you are also paying close attention to the sound quality. Most speakers are going to sound as good for the casual listener. If you want to shop quickly, we can try the popular options because they tend to be more durable and perform well.

One of the most popular options for Bluetooth speakers is JBL and we do think most people are familiar with this famous brand. They have been in the market for quite some time carrying a wide range of speakers, especially compact speakers, headphones, and small earphones. Their speakers are many people’s favorite and it is easy to see why. With a competitive price range and good sound quality as well as a variety of sizes to choose from, almost everyone can find their ideal choice.

For those who want a big sound coming from a fairly compact body, the JBL Xtreme 3 and Charge 5 are two favorite options to consider. These speakers are very popular for their strong music performance and are very similar to each other. However, the Xtreme 3 is an older variant and also quite more expensive compared to the Charge 5 which is why it is wise to know whether the quality can fill the price gap, according to your preference.

Personally we think the Xtreme 3 is worth more than twice the price of Charge 5 because it is a bigger variant. Bigger speakers tend to sound better and you often can notice the wider soundstage it can offer too. In this comparison Xtreme 3 not only sounds more pleasant but has some features that are not present on the older speakers. Additionally, design wise the Extreme 3 is also more unique compared to similar speakers from the brand.

JBL Xtreme 3 and Charge 5 Design

When you see the JBL Xtreme 3 and Charge 5, the most noticeable difference will be their size because they are quite different here. Xtreme 3 is at least about 30%-40% bigger than the newer speaker and if you notice, there is a pair of rings on the top of this speaker. This is useful when you attach a strap to the device and wear it like a sling bag. Due to the size and weight of the speaker carrying it this way is more convenient.

The overall design and material quality stay the same however so if you are familiar with JBL tube speakers, the two are going to be very familiar too. There are the same bumpers on both of the edges to improve look and protect the speakers. They are very durable and designed for both indoor and outdoor use. There is a flap in the back where you can find the ports and we notice that Charge 5 removes the 3.5mm port here. Read also: UE Boom 2 VS Boom 3 here.

There are so many to cover about these speakers but let’s start with the main specs. Additionally the Xtreme 3 is claimed to go as low as 53 Hz and the brand new Charge 5 is coming at 65 Hz.

JBL Xtreme 3 and Charge 5 Sound Quality

Now for the sound character, we do think they are very similar like most JBL speakers but they are not the same. Probably due to the size and also Xtreme 3 being a stereo speaker, this one has a wider soundstage so it undoubtedly sounds more natural too. The bass is also stronger and more pronounced on the Xtreme 3 with Charge following quite close behind it. The mids are very similar however so we have nothing to say here and they are both good.

The highs are also the same, probably because they have the same tweeter size. Both JBL Xtreme 3 and Charge 5 are suitable for a wide range of music genres even though pop, hip-hop, and electronic are going to be the best combination. As for the volume, you may guess that Extreme 3 is louder and yes, it is but we also love the fact that you can drive the sound level higher without noticeable distortion on this speaker.

JBL Xtreme 3 and Charge 5 Features

Lastly for the features, both JBL Xtreme 3 and Charge 5 are very similar too. From the build quality these two are already IP67 which means they are protected against water and small particles like dust for both indoor and outdoor application. The speakers are maintaining the connection really well too so we guess they are using the new Bluetooth version already. One feature we always love in Bluetooth speakers is the charging out function so you can charge other devices using these two.

When it comes to JBL speakers, you can connect them with other similar speakers from the lineup. Both JBL Xtreme 3 and Charge 5 are coming with PartyBoost feature which means they are able to be connected to each other or with many other speakers from the same brand that comes with the same feature.

These speakers are great options for those who want to have their music come in a convenient package but also powerful enough to have fun with. The main differences between JBL Xtreme 3 and Charge 5 is size based so volume, sound stage, and bass response will be better on the Xtreme 3 due to the size and it being a stereo speaker.
