A lot of people have found the same confusion when choosing between QSC KW181 and EV ELX118P. Both of these two products are very popular subwoofer models on the market. People love them because of their excellent bass quality and output power. Even so, you may need to note that the two products are standing in different price ranges. EV ELX118P is usually much more affordable than QSC KW181, to the point where you can actually get two EV ELX118P for one QSC KW181. So, which model does hold the fullest value for the money?
One of the things that people usually consider in choosing for a subwoofer is the size. We want the subwoofer to be compact and portable. This is especially true if you are going to use the subwoofer at different gigs. The smaller and lighter, the better. For this reason, QSC KW181 may be kind of daunting at first, as it is actually one of the biggest and heaviest subwoofer models on the market. As the effect, it may require you to put some extra efforts if you take it to gigs, though the problem shouldn’t be there if you are going to put it in a fixed place. On the other hand, EV ELX118P is quite smaller and lighter, allowing for better portability.
Both products actually have an 18” driver that is protected by a plywood enclosure. They are both quite rugged and durable. Each comes with a rugged metallic grille that protects the driver from abuse and damage.
Due to the considerable price gap, some people actually prefer to purchase two EV ELX118P instead of one QSC KW181. This is generally a good choice because two speakers will give your more power and volume. You will be able to fill a bigger gig easily with two EV ELX118P.
However, for usage in a room or a smaller gig, you may prefer to use QSC KW181. This is because it actually has a wider frequency response range that reaches lower frequencies. In addition, it also has a higher maximum SPL handling, allowing it to handle extreme sound levels without breaking. It is also a better choice for monitoring purposes because it is more accurate.
